The Lord Jesus has invited me to renounce everything to follow Him (Mk 10:28). I recently made my first profession of vows in the Servants of Christ Jesus, a Catholic religious community of missionary priests and brothers. Our community serves the kingdom of God through our charisms of teaching, preaching, and spiritual direction. In these past two years of formation, Jesus has formed me through prayer and mission. He has sent me to share the Gospel across the United States, and even throughout the world. Soccer matches in Kenya became catalysts for conversion. Train rides in Germany became occasions of communion and prayer. From Columbus to Calcutta, the children of God have encountered the love and mercy of Jesus through Scripture, praise, and repentance. This is all the work of God, and it is a supreme joy to mediate His grace as His lowly Servant.
This year, I will be ministering to youth and young adults in the Denver area and periodically preaching retreats around the country. However my primary call is to begin studies for priesthood at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in the Archdiocese of Denver. The remainder of my formation track will include two years of philosophical studies, three years of teaching high school, and four years of theology. Jesus has been teaching me that my personal investment in studies and academics is a crucial component of missionary fruitfulness.
I appeal to you, the body of Christ, to assist in our mission to “go into all the world and preach the Gospel” (Mk 16:15). The cost of my books, room, and board for this coming year is $12,000. This means that I need approximately 10 individuals to commit to $50-100 a month for 12 months or a one-time donation of $600-1,200. To donate to my appeal, please use the enclosed envelope or visit scjesus.org/brjoseph to donate using PayPal or Venmo.
Please remember the Servants in your prayers and be assured of our continued prayers for you. May God reward your kind consideration and generosity.
Yours in Christ,
Br. Joseph Jogues, SCJ
